A/C Vacuum and Recharge
When your air conditioner blows only mildly cool air or no cool air at all, it’s probably low on refrigerant, the gas that many people still refer to as “Freon” but which now is a different substance, R-134, that’s less damaging to the environment. That means it’s probably time for an A/C recharge, but there’s more to it than just filling ’er up.
Because the refrigerant operates in a closed system, the most likely cause for low levels is a leak in the air-conditioning system.
The most common practice by repair shops is for a qualified technician to inspect the system for obvious leaks, such as in hoses, pipes or the air-conditioning compressor, and make repairs as necessary.
A/C LEAK DETECTION
A/C system are leaks in the refrigerant circuit. These lead to an unnoticed drop in filling level and thus to a reduction in performance or even complete failure. As far as refrigerant R134a is concerned in particular, it is well known that it diffuses out of rubber pipes and connections.

Problem with AC Cooling
Air Conditioning If you have a general reduction of cooling, but the car a/c is still cooling, your a/c compressor may just be low on refrigerant (Freon). Ramon’s Automotive can inspect your car for Freon leaks and add additional Freon based on the manufacture’s specifications. If your car overheats only in very hot weather, it may be is a Cooling System problem that requires a full cooling system inspection. If you have no cooling, you may have a broken seal, hose or bad compressor. The air from your AC vents should be about 50% with air conditioning on. Some older vehicle’s air conditioning does not work well when the outside temperature is very high because of low Freon or the AC unit cannot support cooling your vehicle in very high temperatures.
Air Conditioner Smells – Odors
A smell like rotten eggs is common and should be fixed – repaired. The odor could be mold from the growth of bacteria. The bacteria is normally located behind you dash on the evaporator. One cause is the lack of use of your auto air conditioner. There are anti-bacterial treatments that we can apply after a full inspection by the Ramon’s Automotive air conditioner specialist.
